The history of passenger transport as a mass phenomenon has more than 140 years. During this time, a huge number of public transport systems of all types were created, thousands of models of rolling stock were invented, original engineering and management solutions were applied. In many cities, one type of transport replaced another, some abandoned certain types of transport, and some cities became 'standard' in terms of the development of tram, trolleybus or bus service, metro lines, monorail or funicular.
To summarize the experience of the development of public transport, literature began to be created — first technical, then statistical and historical.
