Atlas of Urban Electric Transport of the Russian Federation

Group of authors:

Publication of this book was planned several years ago by the authors and this is our modest contribution to the development of transport history in Russia. We hope that the renewed development of urban electric transport, which appeared tentatively in major cities across the country in recent years, will continue and be reflected in newer editions of this book.

Atlas of Urban Electric Transport of the Russian Federation

The atlas contains a number of functional sections. The first section is an introductory commentary by the authors, followed by a short history of urban electric transport in Russia.

The third section is the reference and information part of the atlas. 20 appendices in the form of tables, diagrams and texts, depict the historical development of urban electric transport in Russia, the distribution of cities and towns with urban electric transport by Russian regions, their presence in different groups according to numbers of inhabitants etc. A special section is devoted to the predecessors of the electric tramway — horse, steam and gasoline tramways, as well as closed and non-municipal electric transport systems. Information on fares, passenger flows and the operating efficiency of tramway and trolleybus systems is summarized. Information on models and sub-models of passenger and service vehicles operating now in Russian cities is presented in another appendix. The summary tables on total metro rolling stock, trams and trolleybuses that are operating in urban electric transport systems, classified by models and sub-models, have also been included into this section.
